240 Dublin Roles Affected as Gambling Industry Faces Rising Costs
The announcement by Flutter Entertainment, the parent company of Paddy Power, that up to 1,400 jobs are to be cut across Ireland and the UK represents another significant blow to employment in the gaming and betting sector.
According to reports from RTÉ, approximately 240 positions are at risk at Flutter’s global headquarters in Clonskeagh, Dublin, where the company currently employs around 1,770 people.
The affected positions span a broad range of professional disciplines, including finance, human resources, technology, legal services, training and corporate support.
Employees affected by the restructuring will be offered voluntary redundancy.

Rising Taxes Driving Employment Reductions
The restructuring follows substantial changes to gambling taxation in the United Kingdom.
Remote gaming duty on online casino games and slots has increased from 21% to 40%, while general betting duty on online bets is scheduled to rise from 15% to 25% in April 2027.
Flutter estimates that its restructuring programme will cost between €71 million and €80 million.
The company employs approximately 28,500 people globally, operating major brands including Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Bet.
The latest announcement follows earlier reductions in the company’s retail betting operations, which resulted in approximately 200 redundancies in Ireland.
Wider Concerns for Employment
Flutter is not alone in responding to increasing operating costs.
Entain, the owner of Ladbrokes, has also announced substantial workforce reductions, including plans affecting customer service positions.
These developments raise important questions about the longer-term employment outlook for the gambling industry, particularly in Ireland, where international operators have established significant technology, financial and operational functions.
The potential loss of experienced professionals across multiple disciplines could have consequences extending well beyond the gambling sector itself.

At MyJobs.ie, we recognise that redundancy and corporate restructuring create considerable uncertainty for employees and their families.
However, the professional skills developed within organisations such as Flutter are highly transferable.
Experienced employees in finance, technology, compliance, human resources, customer operations and business management can bring significant value to employers across Ireland, the UK and international markets.
MyJobs.ie encourages professionals affected by these announcements to register their skills, experience and career preferences on our global talent platform.
We also encourage employers seeking experienced professionals to consider the considerable talent potentially becoming available through these restructuring programmes.
While the loss of established employment is deeply disappointing, creating pathways into new opportunities must now become a priority.
