GP Shortages Creating Major Career Opportunities

GP Shortages Creating Major Career Opportunities Across Ireland and the UK

General Practitioners are at the frontline of healthcare, providing essential services to communities every day. However, recruiting and retaining sufficient numbers of GPs continues to be a significant workforce challenge across Ireland, with particular pressures in communities where practices are trying to meet growing patient demand.

For qualified doctors, this also means that career opportunities are opening up across the country.

From Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford to regional towns and rural communities, practices require experienced doctors to strengthen existing teams, expand services and provide greater access to primary care.

MyJobs will shortly be bringing GP vacancies from across Ireland together on our new recruitment platform, making it easier for doctors to explore opportunities based on location, working arrangements and career ambitions.

The opportunities are diverse. Practices may be seeking doctors for permanent GP appointments, salaried positions, partnerships, locum contracts, part-time roles, out-of-hours services and flexible working arrangements.

There is also considerable potential for Irish doctors currently working overseas who may be considering returning home. MyJobs intends to connect these professionals with opportunities in Ireland while providing useful information around relocation, registration and making the transition back into the Irish healthcare system.

Opportunities across the UK

Ireland is not alone in facing pressures within primary care.

Across the UK, GP recruitment and workforce capacity remain major healthcare priorities. Opportunities exist within GP practices and primary-care services in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, giving suitably qualified doctors access to a broad range of locations and working environments.

MyJobs will shortly feature GP roles across both Ireland and the UK, allowing healthcare professionals to explore opportunities on both sides of the Irish Sea from one platform.

Our international reach will also allow us to connect with suitably qualified healthcare professionals further afield who may be interested in relocating to Ireland or the UK.

For employers, MyJobs will provide access to a wider pool of medical talent. For doctors, it will provide a new way to discover vacancies and consider where their skills and experience can take them next.
