Solar A Growing Opportunity Across Ireland

Ireland’s transition towards cleaner, more energy-efficient homes and businesses is creating significant employment opportunities across the solar, renewable energy and retrofitting industries.

As homeowners, businesses and public organisations invest in solar PV systems, insulation, heat pumps and energy-efficiency upgrades, demand continues to grow for skilled professionals who can design, install, maintain and manage these projects.

For tradespeople in particular, the sector offers an opportunity to develop valuable new skills and move into an industry with significant long-term potential.

Roles emerging across Ireland include solar PV installers, qualified electricians, electrical apprentices, retrofit specialists, heat pump installers, plumbers, BER assessors, energy consultants, insulation installers, roofers, project managers, site supervisors and renewable-energy engineers.

There is also growing demand for professionals working behind the scenes. Solar and retrofit companies require sales executives, customer-service specialists, surveyors, estimators, procurement professionals, operations managers and administration teams to support expanding installation programmes.

Opportunities are not confined to Dublin. Solar and retrofit projects are taking place throughout Ireland, creating roles in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Kilkenny, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, the Midlands and across rural communities.

For existing electricians, plumbers and construction professionals, additional renewable-energy qualifications can open up a completely new career pathway. Meanwhile, apprentices and younger workers entering the trades have an opportunity to build careers around technologies that will become increasingly important within Ireland’s energy system.
