Key Responsibilities

• Construct and repair traditional dry stone walls without the use of mortar or cement.
• Select, shape and position natural stones to ensure structural stability and durability.
• Restore existing stone walls while maintaining their original appearance and character.
• Prepare foundations and ensure appropriate drainage.
• Work from project specifications and follow instructions from site supervisors.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship, productivity and site safety.
• Operate hand tools and stoneworking equipment safely.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a four-person team.

Candidate Specification

Successful applicants should demonstrate:

• Previous practical experience in dry stone wall construction or restoration.
• Strong knowledge of traditional stone-laying techniques.
• Ability to identify and select suitable natural stone.
• Good physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.
• Understanding of construction site health and safety requirements.
• Reliability, punctuality and strong teamwork skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience restoring traditional Irish stone walls.
• Background in heritage conservation, landscaping or rural construction.
• Safe Pass certification.
• Full driving licence.
• Experience working with locally sourced stone.
